new baby mixtape [ April 7th, 2006 ]

pinkjammastar
[ mood | hopeful ]

My cousin is expecting her first baby (a baby girl) in about a month. Her baby shower is April 23rd, and along with some other gifts, I wanted to make her a nice mix CD with good 'new baby' and/or 'mom songs'.

The only one I know for sure that I'm putting on there so far is -
"Baby Mama" by Fantasia Barrino

My cousin likes all kinds of stuff, so doesn't matter what genre...I just need lots of ideas.

Thanks!!!

x-posted like whoa, sorry!

2.elbow-forget myself
3.josh ritter-girl in the war
4.modern skirts- 17 dirty magazines

11.ray davies-runawat from time
12.shawn mullins-faith (eh, it's ok)
13.robinella-break it down baby
14.jason collet-pavement puddle stars
15.rachael yamagata-jesus was a crossmaker
16.the avett brothers-talk on indolence

Second Mix Tape [ February 21st, 2006 ]

rilkes_dream
I wish my scanner worked because I make all these mixes covers. Usually pencil sketches.

Anyway, I made this mix yesterday for my paramour. Not supposed to be romantic, he listens to alot of bluegrass and folk (alot of other weird rock too...strange boy) just something nice to pass the time and convince him that he needs to broaden his horizons. :) I am bored and in the mood to explain why I chose each.

1-Sufjan Stevens- Casimir Pulanski Day (This is the first song I forced him to listen to. It's a staple on the stereo now.)
2-Bob Dylan– Man in the Long Black Coat
(Dylan aged and wrinkled telling a story with a lonesome harmonica. Beautiful. Western Gothic personified)
3-Ledbelly-House of the Rising Sun (The blues master at work, sounds NOTHING like the Rolling Stones version)
4-The Smiths- Sing Me to Sleep (He didn't know who the Smiths were. HE DIDN'T KNOW WHO THE SMITHS WERE!)
5-Pario Marty- W-Day (Real quiet, up and coming Olympia, Washington USA artist)
6-Aimee Mann- You Could Make a Killing (It was the best way to link the really low key, w-day to the bizzare books track)
7-The books- vogt dig for kloppervok (He likes Godspeed You! Black Emperor, all of the ambience none of the agnst)
8-Animal Collective- mouth wooed her (I want him to listen to them and I thought after the Books they wouldn't sound so weird)
8- Wilco- Handshake Drugs (Everyone needs a little wilco)
9- Garbage- thirteen (really interesting cover of a Big Star Song, though I prefer Elliott Smiths cover)
10- Beck- Truck driving neighbor downstairs (He likes Beck, I like Beck. The song starts with "Cmon Motherfucker! Put some clothes on!" Enough said.)
11- Odetta- midnight special (If you aren't familar with Odetta and you like blues. shame on you)
12- Velvet underground- the black angels death song (in keeping with the bizzare, bob dylan vocals and sonic youth guitar)
13- The 13th floor elevators- youre gonna miss me (originators of psychedelic rock)
14- Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli- Minor Swing (If I had to choose a theme song, this would be it)

Hi there [ February 21st, 2006 ]

rilkes_dream
Hey there, My name is Christa. I'm a college student from Vermont. I'm pretty in love with Mixtapes (and mix cd's). My musical taste is not "everything" but it is pretty random. Later today I'm hoping to scan the cover art I drew and type out the list to this other mix I made yesterday (when I should have been writing a paper)

This is a mix of all songs that seemed appropriate for the title.

Dark Clouds Moving In

1-Autopilot- Queens of the Stone Age
2-Modern Romance- The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3-Heroin- The Velvet Underground (1969 Live Version)
4-Give My Love To Rose- Johnny Cash
5-Mad World- Gary Jules
6-Hurt- Nine Inch Nails
7-Lullaby- Pedro the Lion
8-Needle in the Hay- Elliott Smith
9-The Drugs Don't Work- Ben Harper
10-Silent Ghost- Pario Marty
11-Seduction- Bright Eyes
12- Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want- The Smiths
13-Strange Fruit- Billie Holiday
14-Treasure- The Cure
15-Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child- Odetta

first challenge! [ August 31st, 2005 ]

robotdeathgrip
[ mood | cheerful ]

even though we only have four members (thank you)
doesn't mean we can't have fun!

the challenge:
create and post a songlist (at least 12 songs, but there can be more)
the songlist should be for a tape that would be for listening to on a
city bus/subway.

i'd post an example, but i'm still mulling it over.
some ideas: songs about or that mention traffic, buses, bus stops, the city, ect...
DO IT! HAVE FUN! I DON'T WANT TO BE THE ONLY PERSON WHO POSTS TO THIS!!
